TRAINING / SPORTS SCIENCE INSTITUTE FITNESS ASSESSMENT

With three days of Fitness Assessments and Pre-season training ahead, the U16s headed off to Newlands, next to the Newlands Stadium, to the Sports Science Institute of South Africa for their assessments.

The Sports Science Institute of South Africa exists to optimise the sporting performance and health through the execution, application and dissemination of science.

The Institute offers a multi-disciplinary range of services and memberships that cater for a diverse spectrum of needs, from health and wellness to sporting excellence, using exercise, nutrition and mental health to enhance human performance.

The primary aims of a scientifically based exercise testing and programme are:

To determine the physiological and health status of an athlete
To indicate the athlete's strengths and weaknesses relevant to his/her sport;
To provide baseline data for training prescription
To provide insight into the condition of the athlete and the type of changes that might be feasible to optimize performance. The physiological testing and consultations enable Coaches to work out training programmes that are specific to the needs and positions of individual players Athlete education regarding execution of training exercises.
For Worth, the boys are being assessed against the Springbok U16 team - results will be available to the coaches in the next few days.

5) 40 meter Speed

6) Pull-ups

7) Push-ups

8) Bleep (Aerobic endurance)
